The first-ever State of Theology survey in the United Kingdom has built a comprehensive guide to the theological beliefs of the British people. Conducted by ComRes, the 2018 State of Theology survey asked a representative sample of UK adults and a separate sample of practising Christians what they believe about God, Jesus Christ, and much more.
The results confirm that the United Kingdom is a mission field, with a third of adults replying “I don’t know” to many questions.

However, it’s clear that most people defend freedom of speech—backing the right of Christians to speak out on political issues.

There may be as many as two million evangelicals in the United Kingdom. They are committed to the belief that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and their pro-life and pro-marriage beliefs contrast sharply with the general population. Yet evangelicals expressed some erroneous views about Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
These results show the urgent need for sound biblical teaching and the bold preaching of the gospel. It is our hope that these findings will serve the church in its efforts to reach more people with the faithful proclamation of the truth of God’s Word.
